Furniture that outlasts the house it is built for.

Eight woodworkers, one shop on Pine Street. Kitchens, libraries, stair parts and tables, cut from Vermont hardwoods that spent a year air-drying before they reached our rack.

A cabinet should be repaired once a century, not replaced once a decade.

William Trask learned the trade in a traditional shop where drawers were dovetailed by hand and the glue came out of a pot. In 2008 he rented half of an old machine shop on Pine Street and built a kitchen for Anneliese Brandt’s parents on borrowed clamps. Anneliese, who draws our jobs and runs the schedule, never left.

The shop now fills the whole building. Eight of us work at the benches, two installers carry the finished work out the door, and we take on about twenty jobs a year. That is fewer than we could sell and exactly as many as we can build properly.

05 / Lead time

16 weeks

That is our average from deposit to the last drawer being checked on site. It runs from 14 weeks for a bookcase to 22 for a kitchen with a mudroom attached. We would sooner tell you that now than apologise in week twelve.

Seven stages, in order: consultation, drawings, deposit, milling, joinery, finish, install. Each has its own weeks and its own note on the process page.

Hide glue in a cold shop

Why a glue pot stays on the stove in the joinery room, and what we do on the mornings the building drops under 60 degrees.

    Butternut is back, briefly

A windthrown tree near Bristol gave us 400 board feet. It will be gone by Christmas, and so will the quote for it.

Come and put your hand on a drawer.

The showroom is the front 600 square feet of the shop. Estimates are by appointment, usually an hour and a half, and Ruth Delacroix will ask what you are trying to fix before she asks what you want to build.
